Luis Suarez tops Goal Transfer List 2014

The deal to bring the Uruguayan from Liverpool to Camp Nou will eventually cost Barcelona a staggering €252 million, placing the transaction at No.1 in our study

Luis Suarez’s move from Liverpool to Barcelona has topped the 2014 Goal Transfer List, our calculation of the maximum outlay on each of the 10 biggest transfers this year.
The exclusive study looks beyond face value and reported transfer fees to uncover the true cost of the biggest summer acquisitions by analysing factors like signing-on fees, what the agents have earned and the foreseeable costs the clubs will pay out over the course of each player's contract.
The full amount invested by Barcelona to sign Suarez will total €252 million, placing the transfer at No.1 for this year, narrowly ahead of Angel Di Maria’s move from Real Madrid to Manchester United which will set the Old Trafford club back €241m.
Those two deals are comfortably the most expensive of the year, although Madrid are also involved in the third most expensive transaction, with their capture of Colombia star James Rodriguez from Monaco set to cost them a total of €169m.
The move to bring Alexis Sanchez from Barcelona to Arsenal comes in at No.4 with a total outlay of €143m from Arsene Wenger’s side, while teenager Luke Shaw is Manchester United’s second signing in the top five with his arrival from Southampton set to reach €131m in the years ahead.
The transfers involving Diego Costa (Atletico Madrid to Chelsea), Cesc Fabregas (Barcelona to Chelsea), Juan Mata (Chelsea to Manchester United), David Luiz (Chelsea to Paris Saint-Germain) and Eliaquim Mangala (Porto to Manchester City) round off the top 10
